Travel
The Swiss Canton of Ticino is nested between the peaks of the central Alpine massif and the lakes bordering Northern Italy. The whole region is pleasant and interesting.
The closest international airports are Zurich Airport and Milano Malpensa. Both airports have a direct rail link to Bellinzona train station (the Canton's capital). From there, a short ride on a regional train will take you to Locarno. From Malpensa you can also first go to Milan Central Station and from there you'll have hourly direct trains to Locarno. Also accessible are Milan Linate airport (direct train from Locarno to Milan Central Station, then taxi to the airport) and Milan Orio Al Serio airport (low-cost flights; direct bus link to Bellinzona station) From Locarno train station a leisurely walk through the beautiful Piazza or a short bus ride will take you to the conference venue.
On the website of the Swiss Federal Railways you can access timetables for all public transportation in the country and neighboring regions, including connections to Zurich's and Milan's airports. The name of the bus stop near the main conference venue is Locarno, Cinque vie.
On Thursday the talks will be in the newly built USI-SUPSI campus in Lugano (bus stop: Lugano, Campus Universitario). Lugano is a quick commute away by train -- and note that a free pass for all public transportation in Canton of Ticino is included in all hotel rates. This pass is valid in particular for all city busses and regional transit sistem: see the "Ticino ticket" website for further details.
